Yankees Quick Hits: Gary Sanchez Interview

INSIDE SCOOP ON YANKEES PHENOM GARY SANCHEZ

Gary Sanchez answered questions prior to the Thurman Munson Awards Dinner last week and I was able to attend the press conference and collect these notes for our readers.

He started by saying that his 2017 goals are to stay healthy and to help the pitching staff. He emphasized that helping the pitching staff is really something that he wants to do this year.

When asked about Spring Training, he acknowledged that he has always been a slow starter so he is not changing anything but he plans to approach the spring with a lot of intensity and he is not resting on his laurels. He said he was only up for two months last season and that there is a lot to learn catching these guys on a regular basis.

When asked about his beard, he said that he is planning on shaving tomorrow before he heads down to Tampa for Spring Training. He also confirmed that he will not be playing in the World Baseball Classic. He said that he initially was going to play but changed his mind after talked to friends and family. He said that he did not speak to the Yankees organization when making his decision.

When asked about how it feels to win an award named after Thurman Munson , he stated that it is really an honor for him and that Thurman was a great human being and Yankees’ Captain. When asked if he has aspirations to become Captain, he said that’s something that he is not even thinking about and he is only thinking about next season.

Only time will tell.
