Yankees Quick Hits by Bryan Revello
The Yankees have not been shut out in 2017 and have 10 comeback wins. One of the major reasons that this season feels so much like the past is because the signature of many Yankees championship teams was their penchant for making dramatic comebacks. Fans always believed that the Yankees were still in the game and the above stat showing that the Yanks have yet to be shut out is more proof that this team has something special going on.
Gary Sanchez is back and he is officially heating up. With the way most of the offense is playing, the addition of a productive Sanchez makes the dangerous Yankees’ lineup even scarier. Sanchez has tore the cover off the ball over the past two weeks and accomplished another impressive achievement as well. Sanchez is now tied for 2nd place all time for most home runs (23) in first 70 career games played. Jose Abreu has the most with 26, Sanchez is tied with Wally Berger at 23 and Ryan Braun, Mark McGwire and Rudy York are all tied for 3rd place with 22.
Derek Jeter night at the Stadium was a blast to the past. The stadium was packed, the traffic and parking lots were brutal and the fans were filled with energy. At least before the actual game started but that’s not what we are here to discuss. A drive to the stadium that usually takes 20 minutes without traffic pushed to almost two hours and the parking lots were mostly filled to capacity. There was even a point where cars were being led into parking garages only to have the cars drive through and exit the other side. It was a madhouse in a way that hasn’t been seen since the early 2000’s. Role call was loud and fans cheered their hearts out as each Yankees’ legend was introduced as part of the ceremony. The fans also showed much respect as they hung on every word spoken by Derek (and he is not a man of many words). It was a special night for Yankee fans of all generations and ESPN broadcast the event for the fans to see all over the world.
